Individual Opportunities

You can be  the change you want to see in your community.

Volunteers join us for all kinds of reasons:

  • giving back to the city they love
  • learning new skills
  • team-building
  • to meet new people

But what they all find is their place in a bigger picture.

Individual volunteers commit to volunteer at least 4 hours one time during a 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. shift. Volunteers who are interested in volunteering on the construction site should register at habitatpeoria.volunteerhub.com and look for available opportunities open to the public.

We supply all the tools and materials for the day, including safety glasses and hard hats. You are welcome to bring your own, though, if you'd rather. No construction experience is necessary. We have trained professionals to teach you everything you need to know. Construction volunteers must be 16 years or older. Homeowner Support Committee

This role reports to the Family Services Director. The Homeowner Support Committee serves as the people-to-people partnership at the heart of Habitat’s mission: to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. This committee helps maintain homeowner relationships and empowers families by building on their strengths and walking alongside them as they become homeowners. The committee provides resources, guidance and education and builds a relationship with each approved applicant.

This role requires keeping regular contact with the family to assess their needs and concerns, meeting monthly with Habitat staff to get updates on the build and sweat equity progress of the homeowner and pass along any of the family concerns to staff for resolution, and joining the family at build sites on Saturdays or for classes as scheduled.

A successful Homeowner Support Committee Member is a good listener and has relationship building skills, is sensitive to and experienced with issues that may result from living on a limited income, is skilled in a variety of areas including budgeting, home maintenance, yard maintenance and community assets, and is willing to participate in construction workdays, which help promote unity between the prospective homeowner and the committee. If you are interested in volunteering on the Homeowner Support Committee, please contact the Family Services Director at 309-676-6729 ext. 3.

Homeownership Classes Teacher

This role reports to the Family Services Director. Homeowners participate in 12 classes on various topics relating to homeownership before closing on their homes. Topics include: budgeting, credit reports, mortgages, being a good neighbor, code enforcement, home maintenance, landscaping, fire safety, property insurance, community resources, effective parenting/nutrition, decluttering, and wills. These classes prepare our homeowners to be the most successful in their new home.

Teachers of these classes commit to one class each year on one topic. The length of the class or presentation depends on the topic. Teachers who are local and have knowledge or experience in the topic area are always needed. If you are interested in volunteering as a teacher, please contact the Family Services Director at 309-676-6729 ext. 3.

ReStore Volunteers

The Habitat ReStore helps to fund our building program. With limited staff, they appreciate volunteers helping to run the store. Volunteers in the ReStore frequently help with maintenance, cleaning and organization. More information is available on our ReStore Volunteering page.
