A Brush with Kindness (ABWK) is part of Habitat for Humanity’s Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. It is a nationwide program serving low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes. This initiative is a holistic approach, assisting communities as well as individual families. It is designed to revitalize the appearance of a neighborhood, encourage connections within the community, and most importantly, help preserve affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Peoria Area partners with volunteers and sponsors to complete projects throughout the year that focus on accessibility and aging-in-place home repair services, such as:
-
Must live in an owner-occupied, single-family home
-
Must have homeowners insurance
-
Must be unable to afford the necessary improvements and/or unable to complete the tasks due to mobility, disability, or other circumstance
-
House income must be less than 50% of the area median income (see chart below)
-
Must be willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Peoria Area through Sweat Equity and/or installment plans as agreed upon in the Scope of Work Agreement
-
Must be present and engaged at the time of the project and all able-bodied residents must assist volunteers on the repairs
