This role reports to the Family Services Director. The Homeowner Support Committee serves as the people-to-people partnership at the heart of Habitat’s mission: to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. This committee helps maintain homeowner relationships and empowers families by building on their strengths and walking alongside them as they become homeowners. The committee provides resources, guidance and education and builds a relationship with each approved applicant.
This role requires keeping regular contact with the family to assess their needs and concerns, meeting monthly with Habitat staff to get updates on the build and sweat equity progress of the homeowner and pass along any of the family concerns to staff for resolution, and joining the family at build sites on Saturdays or for classes as scheduled.
A successful Homeowner Support Committee Member is a good listener and has relationship building skills, is sensitive to and experienced with issues that may result from living on a limited income, is skilled in a variety of areas including budgeting, home maintenance, yard maintenance and community assets, and is willing to participate in construction workdays, which help promote unity between the prospective homeowner and the committee.
