My name is Delores Leathers. I was born and raised in Peoria, IL.  July 26, 1980. I come from a family of seven, one of which is my twin brother. My mother raised us as a single mother doing the best she could as a part time student and full time worker. I attended a few schools in the Peoria area as well as Bloomington, IL. I attended Richwoods High School. I now work for Caterpillar where I am an assembler. I am a mother of six children, three girls and three boys. I am also a grandmother of two.

I recently was encouraged by a co-worker, who is now a great friend that I should check into Habitat for Humanity Greater Peoria Area. I was on a journey to improve my life. I wanted a better life for my family and I knew I couldn’t do it all alone. Instead of needing a handout I was looking for a hand up, a partnership and that’s exactly what they offered. They have given me a lot of useful tools and knowledge about becoming a first time homeowner. I have met some really great people along my journey with Habitat. They are doing wonderful things for families like myself who work hard, have goals and want a better life. They extend of a hand that says, “here take my hand I will help you up”. They stand by their vision A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
